Boosters FAQ
Who are the Boosters?
We are a group of volunteers (consisting of Binkley teachers and staff, parents of students, and community members) who work to support the Binkley community in various ways. We have a Board whose members are voted into office, but you don’t have to be on the Board to be a Booster!
What do the Boosters do?
Lots! Unless you are new to Binkley this year, you and your children have most likely been part of a Booster activity already!
Events
The most obvious thing we do is put on events and activities for Binkley students and families! We like to kick off the year with a back-to-school event like a carnival, then get kids excited about learning with the annual Read-A-Thon. We also host the holiday events like the Halloween carnival and trunk-or-treat, and the winter party and Bobcat Boutique. Other favorite past events include Multicultural Night, the Color Run, and Camp Binkley.
Fundraising
Some of our events help raise funds while having fun, but we do off-campus fundraisers too. The See’s candy sale is always popular, as well as our various Dine-and-Donate nights at local restaurants. Selling Binkley spirit wear helps contribute to our budget, as do bake sales and raffles at some of our other events. We also earn money when our community shops using eScrip or scans their receipts for BoxTops for Education!
Support Teachers, Staff, and Students
So what do we do with the funds we raise? Some of our budget goes back toward events, but we also help support Binkley’s teachers, staff, and students. During Teacher Appreciation Week, we like to feed the teachers breakfast or lunch each day, and we also provide teacher stipends to purchase classroom supplies yearly (everything from student prizes and educational subscriptions to a new laminator for the office). For students, we provide field trip scholarships to make sure that all students can be included, and we sponsor new playground equipment and art docents for classes.
How can I help?
Whether you have a little time or a lot of time to give, there are lots of ways to help the Boosters and the Binkley community. Come to our meetings, let your voice be heard and share your ideas! Do you know another parent who would be a great Booster? Spread the word! Read Principal Harvell's newsletters to be notified when we need volunteers for events and fundraisers! And make sure you’re scanning your receipts with the BoxTops app, and supporting Binkley when you shop with eScrip!
